Cleaning your BBQ

Even though it may not look like it, the summer will be here soon and with that comes the BBQ season. Get ready to fire up your BBQ by cleaning it.

Before you get your hands dirty, check the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions to avoid causing damage to your BBQ. Don’t forget to wear gloves and protect your clothing. For cleaning your BBQ you will need a barbecue cleaner or an all-purpose spray cleaner, soapy water, oven scraper or pumice stone and a pressure washer if you have one.

Cleaning the inside of your BBQ

Find a bucket or a container big enough to soak the grill in a hot soapy water. Scrub the grill down using a washing up liquid and a sponge. Clean out any ash and waste from the inside of the barbecue. To clean ‘lava rocks’ or ‘ceramic coals’ in your barbecue, leave them soaking in a hot soapy water and then let them dry out.

In a ideal world, barbecues should be cleaned as soon as possible after use…when they cooled down. Most people don’t clean it straight after use and there are a few tricks you can try. If you have a pressure washer you can clean the inside of your barbecue very easy.

Cleaning the outside of your BBQ

After you scrubbed up the grill and cleaned the inside of your barbecue, cleaning the outside is super easy. Wipe it down using a damp cloth, for more messy barbecues you can use a solution of warm water and baking soda. Stainless steel barbecues can be wiped down using an oil which also helps to weather seal it.
