4 Tips To Clean And Reduce Household Dust

One of the best ways to solve a dust problem is to attack it at the source. Totally getting rid of dust is impossible, but there are many things you can do to reduce it. Dust is constantly being formed by flakes of skin, bedding and furniture. Therefore, you have to be meticulous in your cleaning and upkeep if you don’t want it to accumulate.

Try these tips to reduce the dust around your home:

Change Your Air Filters

Most modern homes have forced-air heating and cooling systems installed. These systems come with filters that remove particles that are floating around your home. If you consistently change the filters on these systems, then they run smoothly and filter out a lot of dust. A clean filter will catch almost all the dust it comes into contact with and trap it with an electromagnetic charge.

Consistently Change Bedding

Think about how much time you spend in your bed. It is at least a couple of hours a day. During this time, your bed collects skin and sheds fibers every time you move around. If you let your bed get too dirty, it will release a ton of dust into the air when you use it.

The best way to combat this is to wash your sheets and pillowcases once a week. If you can’t get around to washing them, at least take them outside and give them a good shake. Be careful when removing sheets; if you whip them around, then you will spread dust everywhere.

Get The Right Cleaning Tools

If you are using an old rag to clean up dust, then you are likely just spreading it around. An old rag is not a very effective dust cleaning tool. Dust is not attracted to it, therefore the majority of it will just float away.

Try to pick up something that has an electrostatic charge. Typically, anything that you see in the store that is specifically made for dusting will have this. This type of material attracts dust and traps it so it does not float into the air and settle elsewhere.

Robot vacuum cleaners have also been a popular solution to dust and germs around the home, providing time-saving convenience for busier people.

Organize Your Closets

Closets are filled with materials that trap and attract dust. It is important to box away items that you are not using so dust does not settle on them. Say you organize your closet with boxes; dust will settle on the boxes instead of your clothes. It is a lot easier to remove dust from a box than cleaning all the clothes in your closet.

Another option is to cover your clothes with plastic. The plastic protects your clothes and is a lot easier to clean than cotton or material blends. While you are at it, make sure to keep the floor in your closet as clear as possible. A clear floor is easy to run a vacuum over every week or so.

Keeping dust under control takes some work. If you are diligent, you can take a couple of easy steps to cut the dust in your home greatly. Keep things tidy; doing so will reduce dust to a minimum.
